The question has been asked, in one form or another, for some 2000 years (or more). It was first asked in Acts 2:37 after the Jews heard the Gospel preached by Peter. What is interesting about this chapter is that we see all the various steps of salvation performed. Some steps are implied by the context and others are explicit. First, let us list the various necessary steps for salvation.
* HEAR GOD’S WORD – Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God”
* BELIEVE – Hebrews 11:6 “Without faith it is impossible to please Him . . .”
* REPENT – Acts 17:30 “God . . . commands all men everywhere to repent”
* CONFESS – Romans 10:9, Acts 8:36-37 “If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus . . . you will be saved”
* BE BAPTIZED – Acts 2:38 “Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins"
* LIVE FAITHFULLY – Revelations 2:10 “Be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life”
* NOTICE: the first five steps are necessary to become a Christian and the final step is necessary to remain a Christian.
